pyrite removal

What is pyrite? Pyrite is a mineral that is found in the backfill used under concrete slabs. When pyrite is in contact with moisture and oxygen, a chemical reaction occurs, which causes the swelling and disintegration of concrete over the years. When pyrite is present under a concrete slab, it can cause movement causing cracks and/or significant unevenness, jeopardizing the stability of your home. The only solution to permanently correct the problem is to remove the pyrite-affected concrete, then backfill and compact with new stone (pyrite-free certified) and pour a new concrete slab.
